Advice for lawyers-to-be and those planning to study overseas

What makes a job perfect? For most people, three things:

Good pay.
It makes one respectable.
It makes others happy.

No wonder many aspire to be a doctor despite this job's many pressures. Doctor jobs, as well as those other jobs under the medical services industry like nursing jobs, jobs in pharmaceutical and therapist jobs, are very rewarding, not only pay-wise but also personally. Do you remember Andrew Green, the medical student at Duke-NUS we've featured here before? Him having been featured in this blog and back @ www.jobsdb.com.sg/Singapore is a testament to how much we admire students of medicine. Today, we're featuring another student as admirable as Andrew.

Aside from being a doctor, many people believe that being a lawyer also means having a perfect job. We've interviewed Yoriko Lim, a Singaporean LLB Honours (Law) student at the University of Leeds in England recently. She have shared with JobsDB.com Singapore what it's like studying Legal & Compliance theories and studying overseas. Lawyers-to-be and those planning to study overseas someday will pick a lot of useful points from this interview.

What does Yoriko enjoy the most about studying law? The theories and how they are applied to various industries, she have told us. "There are a variety of law modules which make students think a lot and understand how they are applied in various industries, such as intellectual property law, company Law...etc. Few of my favourite modules include Criminal Law and Company Law."

What's her advice to those planning to study overseas someday? Homesickness is the thing to expect, she have told us. "In the midst of achieving more freedom, you will miss your family and friends from your hometown. I would say the most difficult point of life while studying overseas is the process of being independent."
